Amanda Ladd, recreation coordinator for the Schererville Parks and Recreation Department, the governing body that organizes Evening Under the Stars, said she is very excited about this year’s event.

“I really enjoy the atmosphere of the event,” Ladd said. “We will have a lot of candles, tables, beautiful star decorations and a great dance floor.”

In the past two years, the weather hasn’t been ideal for an outdoor Evening Under the Stars. “It’s been rained out the past two years and had to move it to an inside location. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t get rained out this year,” Ladd said.

In the event that weather for Evening Under the Stars is unsatisfactory for an outdoor event, it will be moved indoors to the nearby Schererville Community Center. “We’ll have the option to come indoors and even be in air conditioning if necessary,” Ladd said.

This year, Bopology, a Chicago swing, jazz, Rat Pack-esque and jump-blues band will be performing as the community has an opportunity to dance and relax under the Schererville stars. Bopology is made up of a piano, bass, saxophone, trumpet and vocals and has been performing together for over 20 years.

“I’ve worked with them the past couple years, they have a great atmosphere and stage presence, take requests and know how to get people out of their chairs and on the dance floor,” Ladd said.

Evening Under the Stars is more than just an outdoor dance event, Ladd said.

“It brings a sense of community to the residents,” Ladd said. “It gets people out to enjoy the good weather when we have it and provides a greater sense of community for everyone. The Parks Department is dedicated to offering events and programs to help the community. I think the Parks Department is what brings people to live in a location.”

Admission to Evening Under the Stars is free. All ages are welcome.

Provided seating for Evening Under the Stars will be limited. It is recommended that attendees bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets. Concessions will be available as well.

Ladd said to attendees, “Bring your dancing shoes and be ready for a nice, relaxing evening under the stars with awesome music.”
